President John Dramani Mahama, together with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has donated GH¢50,000 to the family of the late legendary highlife musician, Daddy Lumba, in support of funeral arrangements.
The donation was made on Saturday, December 13, during the final funeral rites held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, where thousands of fans gathered to bid farewell to the celebrated musician.
The funeral attracted a massive crowd, with mourners arriving early to honour the music icon. The atmosphere at the stadium was marked by a blend of grief and celebration, as fans sang and danced to Daddy Lumba’s timeless hits. Security was visibly heightened to ensure the safety of attendees.
Several high-profile dignitaries were present, including NDC National Chairman Asiedu Nketiah, Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene, Ashanti Regional NDC Chairman Augustus Andrews Nana Kwasi, and other party officials.

The burial follows a ruling by the Accra High Court, which cleared the way for the funeral after Daddy Lumba’s maternal family failed to meet the GH¢2 million requirement to sustain an injunction preventing the release of his body.
Lawyers involved in the case described the decision as a moment of relief and unity, calling on Ghanaians to come together to honour the national icon.
