Education Ministry urges police to intensify search for interdicted Bole SHS teacher

The Ministry of Education has called on the Ghana Police Service to intensify efforts to locate, arrest and prosecute the interdicted Bole Senior High School teacher who remains at large weeks after a nationwide manhunt was launched.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 14 and signed by Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, the Ministry expressed concern over the suspect’s continued evasion of arrest despite the seriousness of the allegations against him.

“The Ministry of Education urges the Ghana Police Service to, as a matter of urgency, locate and arrest the interdicted Bole Senior High School teacher, who remains at large weeks after a nationwide manhunt was announced,” the statement said.

The Ministry noted that the teacher recently granted a media interview in which he claimed his actions were unintentional and reportedly appealed to be transferred to a village school, arguing that the interview should provide investigators with useful leads.

“We believe that with intensified efforts, including digital tracking and contacting the source which reported his flimsy excuse, the Police could successfully locate him,” the Ministry stated.

According to the Ministry, information available to it suggests the teacher’s conduct was deliberate rather than accidental.

“Information available to us indicates that contrary to what he claimed in his recent interview, his unprofessional conduct was deliberate and intentional,” it said.

The Ministry further alleged that investigators have obtained additional videos purportedly showing the teacher engaging in similar inappropriate conduct with other female students.

“Based on what we know so far, we believe that the now disgraced and interdicted teacher used his privileged position as a teacher to exploit vulnerable female students,” the statement added.

Reiterating the position of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, the Ministry described the alleged misconduct as “unacceptable, shameful and inconsistent with the values and standards expected of members of the teaching profession.”

While expressing confidence in the Ghana Police Service’s investigative capabilities, the Ministry said it would be disappointing if the suspect remained beyond the reach of law enforcement.

It also appealed to members of the public with credible information on the teacher’s whereabouts to report it to either the Police or the Ministry of Education.

Beyond the Bole SHS case, the Ministry raised concerns over what it described as rising incidents of indiscipline involving teachers, school heads and students across the country’s educational institutions.

It warned that such misconduct undermines teaching and learning, erodes public confidence in schools and threatens efforts to maintain safe and disciplined learning environments.

The Ministry disclosed that the Minister for Education has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to strictly enforce disciplinary measures against all forms of misconduct in pre-tertiary institutions.

It also announced plans to convene a National Dialogue on indiscipline in schools to bring together key stakeholders to develop practical and sustainable solutions to the growing challenge.
